Mandini Round Table invites you to join them for their 42nd Mandini Tugela Raft Race, for 17km of rafting pleasure. The Raft Race start is in Mandini, ±100km north of Durban on the Natal North Coast. The cost is R750 per raft with 2 to 12 crew members per raft. Life jackets are recommended as we do not like to feed the crocodiles. Company’s entering 3 or more rafts will pay R500 per raft and camping is free of charge with basic showers and toilets available.

At the main camp site we have a Marquee tent with a DJ, food for sale and a bar for Friday and Saturday night, so come join us for a fun weekend getaway. Mandini Round Table, with the support of there sponsors, Honda Marine, Inter waste, KZN Ezemvelo Wild Life and the Mandini Local Municipality assist in cleaning the Tugela River, from start to finish. The north and south beach of the Tugela River are also cleaned. We urge all rafters to respect the river and not to leave polystyrene and other waste in the river. We request that all rafters making use of polystyrene rafts to assist us in our clean up efforts after the raft race, by donating money for the clean up, your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

Rules and Regulations

We would like you to take note of the Rules and Regulations of the Race and the Tugela Raft Race Weekend which are applicable to all who participate (including but not limited to Race participants, support crew and spectators). 

  1. 1.     No person may enter the race or participate on any raft unless they are a good swimmer.
  2. 2.     Whilst life jackets are not compulsory for entry into the race, they are strongly recommended.
  3. 3.     Warning, the Tugela River is the natural habitat for crocodiles, please proceed with caution and refrain from feeding them!   

Raft Regulations:  

a. Less than TWO (2) or more than TWELVE (12) persons on a raft will not be permitted.
b. Rafts can be built out of any material but must have a minimum platform area of 1.83m x 1.22m.
c.    No boats, skis or canoes will be permitted to enter, or rafts with rudder, skegs and guiding strips. No shaping, molding or streamlining (apart from the front bevel) of the hull below the waterline, designed or intended to gain advantage over the other rafts, will be permitted and could mean disqualification from winning a prize other than the theme prize upon examination by the Raft Race Committee.
d.    Only single paddles are allowed. Only one paddle per person will be permitted—no power driven rafts will be permitted.
 Other Rules and Regulations:
e. Race participants and Spectators must note that Ink and/or Dye and/or other items may not be thrown or propelled at other rafts, participants or spectators. Transgressors may be criminally and civilly liable.
f. Please note that the organizers of the Raft Race shall not be responsible, whether ex contractu or ex delictu, for any injury to any person, damage to any property, patrimonial loss, and/or any other loss or damage that might occur prior to the start, during, and after the Race.
g.    No children under the age of 16 years will be permitted without the parents or guardians consent and without an adult signing the application form.
h.    All competitors enter at their own risk, but we will Endeavour to ensure your safety by having rescue boats in attendance.
I.      The finish line is on the North Bank of the river that is the left hand side of the river going down-stream, the raft landing or docking area is 100 meters past the finish line. All rafts are ordered to keep to this bank 2 Km. from the finish line. The distance will be indicated by a ski boat position.
j. Judges and officials will time and record up to the 20th raft then only placing will be recorded up to the 50th raft. The judges and officials decision will be final.
k.    Rafters are requested to move their rafts away from the landing point as soon as possible to make way for the other rafts behind them. Any raft not checked in at the finish, will be taken as not having finished the race and therefore disqualified.
l. A raft not cleared from the finish line to the clearing line will be deemed not to have finished and therefore disqualified.
m. Unruly behavior will be monitored by the S.A.P.S. and action taken should it prove necessary.
o.    Drinking in public is an offence and over-indulgence will result in S.A.P.S. action.
p. Spectators and participants are requested to comply with directions given by race marshals at the official parking areas.
q. Competitors are requested to make a conscious effort to refrain from throwing empty beer cans and other garbage into the river. Refuse bins will be provided at the start and finish for your litter. Please make an effort as this could well cause problems in the future. NO GLASS BOTTLES WILL BE ALLOWED.
r. The prize giving will be held at 20H00 Sharp inside the entertainment tent.
s All rafters not beached by 17H30 at the Finish will be responsible for their own safety.
t. All area demarcations must be strictly adhered to.
u. Should the race be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, the organizers reserve the right to organize alternate arrangements.
v. No refunds will be given or concessions made if cancellations are made less than two weeks prior to the Raft Race. 
w. Right of admission into the Tugela Raft Race Weekend Event and the Race is strictly reserved.
x. By taking part in or watching the Race all participants and spectators shall be deemed to have irrevocably consented to the foregoing terms and conditions.
z. Camping is available in Mandini free of charge, so come and enjoy.
